Paint Supplies
Paint supplies include actual pigments, mediums, and paintbrushes.
They also include many materials used in preparation for painting. In
fact, some people consider the creation of a good painting surface an
art form itself.
The different paint supplies used to get ready to paint include such
things as wood, canvas, sizing, nails, glue, rulers, and canvas pliers.
Poplar is a very strong and reliable wood type for building a stretcher
frame. Attaching a panel such as hardboard to the stretchers may be
a preferred choice for some as it provides a firmer working surface.
Paint supplies which tighten canvas, such as sizing or canvas pliers,
will generally be used independently of each other. Canvas pliers are
used to manually stretch canvas tightly over the frame while staples
are used to secure it. With sizing options such as rabbit-skin glue,
the canvas is attached without too much stress. The sizing is then brushed
on and will pull the canvas as tight as a drum.
Using both sizing and canvas pliers may cause the frame to warp under
too much pressure.
